If your literature review is a stand-alone document Example: A stand-alone literature review that has 10 pages of content (the body of the paper) should examine at least 30 sources.

How many studies are needed for a systematic review?

For systematic reviews, it does not matter how many studies are included. For example: in Cochrane library there are empty reviews (zero studies included). Meta-analysis is usually based on systematic review, the same estimations apply but you can pool any outcome if it was reported TWICE at least.

What should be included in RRL?

In an RRL, you talk about knowledge and findings from existing literature relevant to your topic. If you find gaps or conflicts in existing literature, you can also discuss these in your review, and if applicable, how you plan to address these gaps or resolve these conflicts through your study.

How many sources do you need for a dissertation?

For the entire dissertation, students would be expected to refer to approximately 90+ sources.
