  1. The Davidson Field Scholar Program is open to all graduate students at the University of Michigan.
  2. Eligible applicants must complete two of the following WDI-sponsored student programs. Students may apply once the first program is completed.

What is profoundly gifted?

Those who are profoundly gifted score in the 99.9th percentile on IQ tests and have an exceptionally high level of intellectual prowess. These students score at least three standard deviations above the norm on the bell curve, so they are at the extreme end of the intelligence, or IQ, continuum.

Gifted child, any child who is naturally endowed with a high degree of general mental ability or extraordinary ability in a specific sphere of activity or knowledge.

What are twice exceptional students?

They’re called “twice-exceptional,” or 2e, which means that they have exceptional ability and disability. They are gifted but they also face learning or developmental challenges. Children who are both gifted and challenged can be tough to understand. If they’re in a gifted program, they may fall short of expectations.

How do you beat Davidson Fellows?

Have completed a significant piece of work in one of the submission categories. Be able to demonstrate that the work is his or her own creation. Be able to attend, with at least one parent or guardian, the awards reception. (Note: Travel and lodging expenses will be paid by the Davidson Institute.)

We provide advanced middle school courses online to gifted students, ages 9-13, to help them develop academically and socially. We provide courses for profoundly gifted students that are designed to be different with classes grouped by ability, not age.

What are the requirements for a Davidson Fellowship?

The Davidson Institute is looking for students whose projects are at, or close to, the college graduate level with a depth of knowledge in their particular area of study. This scholarship is not geared toward students at the novice level. See specific Category Requirements below.
