How do you adjust the resistance on a fluid trainer?
Fluid trainers don’t have adjustable resistance. If you want the resistance to be harder, shift the bike into a harder gear. The resistance will increase as your wheel spins faster.
What is the difference between fluid and magnetic bike trainers?
In a fluid trainer, the “roller” on the trainer connects to an impeller that rotates through fluid, providing the resistance for your pedal stroke. In a magnetic trainer, there is no fluid involved. Rather, there is a magneto which you can manually adjust to the desired resistance level.
How tight should bike trainer?
You want the roller/tire contact point to be tight enough so that the tire does not slip as you pedal, but not so tight that it significantly increases the resistance provided by the trainer mechanism itself. Note that your rear tire will wear out significantly during your indoor training season.
How does a mag trainer work?
A magnetic trainer uses magnetic forces to create resistance against the bike wheel. A magnetic trainer uses a flywheel with rotating magnets that engage and disengage in order to increase or decrease the amount of resistance placed on the wheel. In order to change the resistance, you will need to manually adjust it.
Do bike trainers add resistance?
Kinetic fluid bike trainers create resistance by turning a blade inside a container of fluid. This resistance is progressive and increases as wheel speed increases. Kinetic fluid trainers provide a realistic replication of the resistance a rider experiences outdoors. Resistance increases or decreases with wheel speed.
Are fluid trainers quieter than magnetic trainers?
Fluid trainers are noticeably quieter than magnetic trainers, which is especially important for apartment dwellers. The ride provided by a fluid trainer is more road-like in feel than that of the magnetic trainer thanks to its progressive resistance.
Are fluid bike trainers better?
Magnetic trainers are usually much noisier. This is something that will affect you more than you think. Especially if you’re riding your magnetic indoor bike trainer and the kids are upstairs asleep. The other advantage the fluid trainer has is that the ride is that smoother and more progressive resistance.
