Can I use the tube with a train ticket?

If you are making one single or return journey and your destination is a London Underground (the Tube) or DLR station you are recommended to purchase a ‘through’ ticket from your starting station. This will allow you to use the same ticket to continue your journey by Tube and/or DLR once you have arrived in London.

Can I use an overground ticket on the underground?

Yes. If you need to use the London Underground (the tube) to complete your journey, we’ll package up the cost of your Overground and Underground tickets for you. You can then select a ticket to that underground zone, i.e. Edinburgh to London Underground Zone 1.

Can 2 people use the same contactless card on the tube?

No, you can only pay for one person per journey with a single contactless card, just like with an Oyster card. Find out more about TfL’s contactless card service.

Is London Overground same price as underground?

London Overground rail fares cost the same as Underground prices on Oyster, as the service also uses the TfL zone price range, making managing your travel costs much easier.

Can I use contactless on the tube?

2.1 You can use your contactless payment card to pay as you go on bus, Tube, tram, DLR, London Overground, TfL Rail, Emirates Air Line, Thames Clippers River Buses and National Rail services where pay as you go is accepted. You must each tap on and tap off with different cards or devices to pay for one fare, per card, per trip. You can travel at the same time and each card or device will be charged separately.

Can you add a Tube ticket to a train ticket?

If you’re travelling further across London, you can set your destination as any of the London Underground Zones, or just add a Travelcard to your ticket. (If you’re just passing through London on the way somewhere else, your transfer will be included in your ticket price.)

Where can I buy a Tube ticket from?

You can also buy Tube tickets and Day Travelcards from the train guard en route, or a pre-paid Oyster card when you arrive, which is easy to use and may be a better value option if you make regular journeys to London. London Travelcards are not available from LNER stations north of Newark North Gate.

When is the best time to ride the tube in London?

Peak fares – Monday to Friday (not on public holidays) between 06:30 and 09:30, and between 16:00 and 19:00. Off-peak fares – at all other times and if you travel from a station outside Zone 1 to a station in Zone 1 between 16:00 and 19:00, Monday to Friday.
